Wish You Were Here

with Soffia Saemundsdottir

Mail-art project consisting of several hundred postcards, mixed media on paper
Since 2014, ongoing, open ended

The simple joy of receiving a tangible postcard, that magical piece of stamped paper that has physically traversed lands unknown to reach your hand. The open-ended mail-art project ‘Wish you were here’, consists of several hundred handmade postcards that Icelandic painter Soffia Saemundsdottir and I mail to each other. We explore how communication and friendship can withstand distance, how we perceive and interpret the landscape around us, and what impact long term collaboration has on art making. For the duration of each exhibition we set up a makeshift studio where we work on this open-ended venture during gallery hours, inviting gallery visitors to linger, talk, and drink tea with us.
